Fletcher Place.
One of Indy's oldest neighborhoods, on the Cultural Trail between downtown and Fountain Square.
The lowdown
Fletcher Place is one of Indy's oldest neighborhoods. It sits along Virginia Avenue between downtown and Fountain Square. Calvin Fletcher's farm was split into lots in the 1850s, and Irish, German and later Italian immigrants built the worker cottages that still line its streets. You'll also spot Italianate and Queen Anne homes, plus an 1870s church turned condos. The Cultural Trail runs right through, so we walk or bike to coffee, dinner and downtown in minutes.
Our top 5
Five things we love in Fletcher Place.
- Coffee
Calvin Fletcher's Coffee Company
Order the Masala Latte. A dollar from each one goes to Exodus Refugee, and the beans are roasted in-house.
- Mexican
La Eskina
My personal favorite Mexican spot in town. Get the birria with consommé for dipping, a torta, and a Macho Limeade.
- Annual festival
Italian Street Festival
Every June, Holy Rosary fills Lacy Park with pasta, music and bocce. Admission is free, so bring cash for food.
- Community cafe
Lille Bønne
Coffee inside an 1872 Danish church. Stay a while, and look for the monthly Sunday Supper.
- Trail
Indianapolis Cultural Trail
Hop on the Virginia Avenue stretch and bike to downtown or Fountain Square in a few easy minutes.
