Northeast Indy.
Fall Creek corridor with Fort Harrison State Park and old-school Pendleton Pike eats.
The lowdown
Northeast Indy follows Fall Creek out from the city toward Lawrence. The big draw is Fort Harrison State Park, 1,700 acres on a former Army post, with trails, fishing, a dog park and a golf course. Closer in, Skiles Test Nature Park ties into the Fall Creek Greenway. Pendleton Pike and 30th Street carry decades-old local favorites. Housing runs from mid-century ranches to newer subdivisions.
Our top 5
Five things we love in Northeast Indy.
- State park
Fort Harrison State Park
Walk the paved Harrison Trace Trail or the hillier Lawrence Creek Trail, then let the dog loose at the fenced dog park.
- Nature park
Skiles Test Nature Park
80-plus wooded acres off Fall Creek Road. A loop takes about 45 minutes, and a spur hops onto the Greenway.
- Soul food
His Place Eatery
Chef James Jones' original eastside spot. Order the fried chicken and hickory-smoked rib tips with bourbon creamed corn.
- German bakery
Heidelberg Haus Café & Bakery
A Pendleton Pike institution since 1968. Grab Black Forest cake or a pretzel and count the gnomes.
- Breakfast
Café Audrey at Fort Ben
Breakfast on the old Army post. Go for biscuits and gravy or cinnamon roll pancakes before hitting the trails.
