Downtown Indy.

Monument Circle, the Canal and the Cultural Trail, all inside a walkable mile.

The lowdown

This is our home turf. Downtown grew out of Alexander Ralston's 1821 plan, with Monument Circle at the center and four diagonal streets running out from it. Housing here means high-rise condos, apartments in converted historic buildings, and newer townhomes tucked between them. The Canal Walk and White River State Park give you water and green space. The Cultural Trail ties it all together, so most days you can leave the car parked.

Our top 5

Five things we love in Downtown Indy.

  1. Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument

The center of the city. Ride up to the observation deck for skyline views, then come back in December for the lights.

    Landmark
  2. Subito

Lunch-only spot with house-baked bread and a rotating sandwich menu. Go early, because the good ones sell out.

  3. Indianapolis Cultural Trail

Bike or walk the brick-lined loop from Mass Ave to the Canal and Fountain Square. Great on a Saturday morning.

    Trail
  4. Eiteljorg Museum

Western and Native American art right on the Canal in White River State Park. Free First Fridays are the move.

  5. Tinker Coffee on Market

Local roaster's downtown cafe. Get a pour-over or a cortado before a walk to the Circle.
